BRUH this book went from 0 to 100 so fucking quick. I thought there was a lot of stuff happening and I was really enjoying it and then near the end all the different plots went crazy and it was amazing. Loved it so much and can't wait to continue the series!

Note
Before reading the rest of this review I'd like to note that this is a two part review with notes from a first reading and a second reading. Like with any fantasy epic beginning this entire work starts out slowly but this second part becomes much faster and more readable. I encourage reading of this book, because as noted later it was my favourite book read in 2012 and I have been eagerly waiting for this novel almost as much as I awaited the finale of The Wheel of Time.

So, now that I've calmed down (not really!) I'm going to try and attempt to review this book. Don't get you hopes up though. I doubt I'll do it justice.
The scope of this series is too massive for me to provide you with an adequate synopsis. It's going to become a 10 book series (thank God for that!), and we've probably just about scratched the surface with 2 books released so far out of 10.

In the beginning of part two was a lot faster and the readers already know the basic background story of each character.
Jasnah does intrigued me. Shallan is a very good character.
I love the way Sanderson created Roshar, write this book and development each character.
I have noticed that the mother and the daughter Navani and Jasnah are quite different but some ways they are similar.

I want to give this all the stars, but since it took so long to get into, I'm giving it a 4.75.
I just don't understand how Brandon Sanderson can create such awesome, vast worlds. Absolutely mind-boggling. I loved it, so much. The characters, the plot, the build-up. Yes to all! It was so good. So. Good.

I'm definitely going to have a review up for it at some point, but it's late and I'm tired af.
What I will say: I think this is probably one of my new all-time favourite novels. Brandon Sanderson and his damn crafty endings, at it again.
I'd planned to read another book entirely after finishing this one, but I think I'm just gonna dive straight into Words of Radiance tbqh!!

Part 2 of my Way Of Kings review
There was not one moment in this book that I did NOT believe that everything that was happening was absolutely real and important to the story. I thought that, perhaps somewhere in the 1000 pages of this book, I might get bored or frustrated - or even find completing the story a bit daunting - but I feel like I need to stop under-estimating Brandon Sanderson and stop worrying about if his books are going to be incredible. Because they always are. He knows what he'...more

Death is the destination. But the journey, that is life.
This second half of this huge first book in an even bigger fantasy series certainly picked up the pacing compared to the first half.
This book had a lot more going in -in character development, in plot development, in general story development and on top of that was packed up with action moments.
The writing was great, i enjoyed where most of the characters and their different plot points went... but i also have to say that some parts d...more

Firstly, I have to say I'm going to treat Part One and Part Two as the same book, because they are! Therefore my review for each will be the same.
I ate this book! About halfway through Part One I ordered Part Two, but I finished Part One so fast that I had to wait for Part Two to arrive and that was painful! I didn't intend on reading this book in one day, especially right before an exam, but it was simply too good to put down. Can I give six stars instead? Or ten? Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A brief recap of part one was that I actually DNF'd this series as I couldn't get into it but I eventually came back to it, finished it and liked it. So, part two of book one, wow, much better in the respects of action and plotting. We now see where part one was taking us, especially towards the end, bam, bam action, bam, bam plot point and so on. On top of all that is the sense of where the story as a whole is heading...so glad...more

I'm probably being a bit mean giving this less than 5-stars, 4.5/5 for me.
Shallan is a very interesting character, though she hasn't captured my imagination in the same way that Kaladin has, yet. There's still plenty of time for my opinion to change over the 1000's of pages of this series I still have to read.

Wow ..... Wow...... Wow!!!! You need to read this. This is just a whole other level of fantasy.
I have read a lot of people complaining about the size of this book. The number of characters, the extent of the world building, the frequent flashbacks. What I don’t understand is why they find those things to be negatives. Yes there are characters that only appear in a single chapter. Yes there is a prelude as well as a prologue. Yes there are multiple storylines that don’t seem to have any relationship to each other but that is what makes this an epic.

Update: I'll write a review on the bound edition.
First of all, in what language is this blurb?
Secondly, I had ordered the bind-up edition of the entire first book but it got cancelled because they couldn't find it and I had to order, then, the two parts. But I have already ordered the second book in a bind-up and it's going to be taller and they won't freaking match. *clenches fist*
Anyway, my Sanderson collections seems to be growing by the minute.

I will honestly say that it’s been a long time since any book has been able to make me feel the way this one did.

I will forever love this book! And recommend it to everyone and anyone. I've read way of kings more than once but it catches me everytime. I find myself reading too fast sometimes, especially with the build up to that ending... Kaladin leaping over that chasm... be still my beating heart! So that's a full five stars to The Way of Kings, taking in both halves of this epic work. All the parts and characters that he began to flesh out so excellently in the first half of this come together in spectacular waves and crashes. The underlying magical system and religious hierarchy is explored further and yet answers are still somewhere in the mists of future pages. It's unbelievably excellently done and Sanderson is a master of his prose.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings, Book One of the Stormlight Archive begins an incredible new saga of epic proportion.
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter.
It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Men trade kingdoms for Shardblades. Wars were fought for them, and won by them.
One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where ten armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable.
Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by over-powering visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity.
Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar's niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan's motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war.
The result of over ten years of planning, writing, and world-building, The Way of Kings is but the opening movement of the Stormlight Archive, a bold masterpiece in the making.
Speak again the ancient oaths:
Life before death.
Strength before weakness.
Journey before Destination.
and return to men the Shards they once bore.
The Knights Radiant must stand again.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This massive tome is the first of a 10-part epic fantasy series from relative newcomer Sanderson (Mistborn), best known for his efforts to complete the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. In a storm-swept world where history has dwindled into myth, self-serving aristocrats squabble over mystical weapons that render their bearers immune to mundane attacks. The ambitious scholar Shallan learns unexpected truths about the present, the virtuous aristocrat Dalinar reclaims the lost past, and the bitter and broken slave Kaladin gains unwanted power. Race-related plot themes may raise some eyebrows, and there's no hope for anything resembling a conclusion in this introductory volume, but Sanderson's fondness for misleading the reader and his talent for feeding out revelations and action scenes at just the right pace will keep epic fantasy fans intrigued and hoping for redemptive future installments.
Taking over
Brandon Sanderson is quickly taking over and breathing new life into the fantasy genre. Robert Jordan's greatest skill as a writer was his ability to create new worlds on a grand scope. Sanderson not only has created a world that you will continually want to return to, but he has also developed complex and interesting characters. Sanderson is sure to continue to build his fan base with what appears to be the next major epic fantasy series.

Amazing piece of fantasy!
This is the first Brandon Sanderson work I have read and I could hardly put it down. His imagery is extensive, the world he creates is extremely imaginative and immersive. I can hardly wait for the next book to see the story continue. In the mean time I will read some of his other works, it seems he is quite the literary gem.
The only downside to this book is apparent in the digitized copy. The illustrations are small and when I try to zoom in to read the notes the pixelation becomes readily visible and the notes are illegible. This comes as a shock since the author himself praises his artist both in the book and online, yet in his digital copy the illustrations are ignored. There are also several typos in the digital copy, almost all after double f's (effort becomes eff ort). These are easily overlooked since the writing and story are so engrossing.
I highly recommend this book and I await the rest of the series!

I can't wait for the next installment--just a fantastic read. The overarching storyline was interesting whilst the direct intentions/goals of the main characters was gripping enough to keep you wanting more. The combined result is a story set in an incredibly new and fresh world that the reader is easily immersed in. I downloaded the sample and found myself interested but also confused. The book takes a while to understand and enjoy, but it is definitely work a place on your iShelfs.
